Method 1 - via cibil.com
- Go to cibil.com and click 'Get Your Free CIBIL Score'
- Sign up with your name, email, and mobile number
- Verify your PAN and date of birth
- Answer 3-4 identity-verification questions (based on your credit history)
- Receive your CIBIL score (300-900) and a free report once per year
Method 2 - via your bank's app
Most major banks (HDFC, SBI, ICICI, Axis, Kotak) now show a free credit score in their mobile app under "Credit Score" or "CIBIL Score". The score shown may be from CIBIL or from another bureau depending on the bank's tie-up. This is the fastest way to check regularly.
Method 3 - via other bureaus
- Experian India - experian.in
- Equifax India - equifax.co.in
- CRIF High Mark - crifhighmark.com
- Each bureau offers one free detailed report per year
What to check in your report
- All active loans and cards are correctly listed under your name
- No accounts you don't recognise (possible identity theft)
- Repayment status - all should show '000' (paid on time)
- No incorrect late-payment marks (dispute within 30 days if wrong)
- Enquiries in the last 6 months - fewer is better
How often to check
Once every 3-6 months is sufficient for most people. If you're planning a loan application, check 2-3 months before to fix any errors. If you're a victim of identity theft, check monthly.
