What is a CIBIL score?

CIBIL is one of four credit bureaus licensed by RBI to compile Indian credit histories. Your 'CIBIL score' is a single number between 300 and 900 that summarises your repayment behaviour across all loans and cards.

Last updated: 15 June 2025

The four Indian credit bureaus

  • TransUnion CIBIL - the most widely referenced bureau
  • Experian India
  • Equifax India
  • CRIF High Mark

What data goes into the score

Every bank and NBFC reports your loans, credit cards, EMIs, and payment behaviour to all four bureaus every 30 days. The bureau aggregates this into a report and a score. The score itself is derived from a proprietary model but the key inputs are known.

How to get your CIBIL report

  • Go to cibil.com and register with PAN and OTP
  • One free detailed report per calendar year
  • Paid subscriptions for monthly refreshes
  • Your bank's app may also show a free score (Experian / CIBIL variant)
